Mike Thomas, Counsel

Mike Thomas is President of Mike Thomas and Associates in Cleveland, Ohio. Thomas was formerly of counsel to Hennes Communications, which is also in Cleveland, Ohio and of counsel to Levick Strategic Communications, which is based in Washington D.C., New York and London.

Mike Thomas was formerly Executive Director of the Citizens League of Greater Cleveland and the Citizens League Research Institute. He previously served as the Executive Director of the Quadrangle, Inc., a development organization representing the area around Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College and St. Vincent Charity Hospital in downtown Cleveland and as the Executive Vice President of Downtown Cleveland Partnership.

Thomas is the former Executive Director of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party and served as the Campaign Manager for Joel Hyatt’s bid for the U.S. Senate in the 1994 Democratic Primary. In total, Thomas has worked on over eighty political campaigns.

Thomas previously served for four years as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board, a government agency with a budget of over $90 million. He has served as the Vice Chairman for Development of the Greater Cleveland Media Development Corporation and is the former Vice Chairman of the First Miami Student and Alumni Federal Credit Union at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, an organization he co-founded in 1988. Thomas also served on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland and on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Ohio, Planned Parenthood’s statewide advocacy organization.

From 1998-1999, Thomas hosted Cablevision’s weekly business show, Strictly Business. Thomas also anchored Cablevision/Adelphia’s annual election coverage from 1996-2000, shows that won statewide public affairs programming awards three out of four years.

In 2002, Thomas earned Accredited in Public Relations (APR) status from the Public Relations Society of America, a designation reserved for public relations professionals who have demonstrated strong expertise in the field. He was named one of 40 under 40 by Crain’s Cleveland Business in 1999 and is a Class of 2001 graduate of Leadership Cleveland.
