2024 CUYAHOGA COUNTY ARTS AND CULTURE BALLOT ISSUE
FIELD DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Since the inception of public funding for nonprofit arts and culture organizations in Cuyahoga County from the cigarette tax that voters approved in 2006, over $246 million has been distributed in grants to support 485 nonprofit arts and culture organizations, touching nearly every community in our county and providing millions of experiences annually.
Revenues have decreased approximately 50% due to decreasing cigarette sales since, posing a significant threat to these vital arts and culture experiences and programs. In November 2024, voters in Cuyahoga County may be asked to approve a 3.5 cent per cigarette replacement issue.
The campaign committee is seeking a Field Director who will:
Manage a team of regional field organizers;
Recruit, train, mobilize and manage volunteers and supporters;
Reach out to key constituencies and stakeholders to engage them in the campaign;
Build relationships with supportive organizations and businesses and facilitate their engagement in the campaign;
Secure formal endorsements from elected officials, grasstops leaders, businesses and organizations;
Assist with Identifying and staffing community events and meetings;
Identify, coordinate and staff speaking opportunities for campaign leadership and speakers bureau;
Work with regional field organizers to plan, organize and implement door-to-door canvasses and phone banks as appropriate;
Speak to organizations, as needed;
Develop and implement a yard sign distribution plan;
Plan and coordinate early voting and GOTV activities;
Organize and manage poll coverage on Election Day;
Maintain field databases and contact lists;
Provide a weekly written report to R Strategy Group of field activities, needs, upcoming events/activities, and potential issues (template report to be provided);
Hold weekly field team meetings;
Participate in regular campaign calls and meetings; and,
Other tasks as assigned by the campaign.
Requirements: The Field Director must have previous successful experience in field/grassroots organizing on a political campaign; have familiarity and contacts within Cuyahoga County; know how to use VAN and other voter database and field software; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; be responsible, responsive, flexible and work well independently; be very comfortable with email and text messaging, Google Docs and Sheets; and have reliable transportation.
Location: Cuyahoga County, Ohio
Reports to: R Strategy Group
Compensation: $2500 per month for May and June; $5000 per month for July-November 15, 2024, with partial months pro-rated.
Hours: This position is a contract 1099 position. The Field Director will work part-time in May and June and transition to full- time for July- November 15, 2024. Evening and weekend hours are required.
